‘Gulftown’ Core i9 to be in Next Mac Pro

October 15, 2009

Apple’s current Mac Pro is a major speed bump over the rev. before it. The current Mac Pro with it’s stand specs features two quad Core Core i7 Nehalem 5500 Xeon Processors, equaling eight Cores. Mac OS X has a hyper threading feature which turns the Core i7s’ eight Cores, into sixteen Cores. That’s real processing power.

Apple’s next rev. of it’s pro level Mac, the Mac Pro. Is rumored to have Intel’s 2010 roadmap ‘Gulftown’ Core i9 six core processor inside. Apple has always gotten processors from intel before the rest of the industry, somehow… I suppose their exclusive deal with Apple helps.

Don’t buy a new Mac Pro if you’re in the market for one. Wait for the new version.

Apple Releases Performance Update 1.0

October 14, 2009

For awhile now, there have been issues all around the early 2009 unibody macbook pro’s, to the present revs. The most prominent, after the trackpad… Is the sometimes faulty HDD inisde these machines. In the 17 inch version, it would be the 7,200 rpm spec that would quit spinning and render the computer unresponsive. Apparently though, these issues have affected other machines besides the one aforementioned. Ranging from iMacs, to MBPs…

Some of the expected causes of these hangs, were the SMS (Sudden Motion Sensor) inside MacBook Pro’s, being over sensitive, or defective. There are ways of disabling the SMS within terminal, but it’s not possible if you have an HDD. You must have an SSD to disable SMS. As, I have. Here is an Apple Support page regarding disabling SMS.

Anyways, Performance Update 1.0 is available for downloading pleasure for eligible machines.

iMovie update includes new ‘iFrame’ video format

October 13, 2009

Apple, today released an update to iMovie. The update is available through software update, or from Apple’s support download page here. The update fixes minor issues regarding compatibility and the like, and even though this is fine news for iMovie users…

The real news although, is Apple revealed a new video format. The new format is called “iFrame.” iFrame is based on H.264 and AAC audio codecs.

As mentioned on Daring Fireball, iFrame is already the native shooting format used in two new Sanyo video cameras.

Recycling, and how it wastes money

October 12, 2009

My father’s workplace, has a facility dedicated to paper being recycled. He’s a mailman, so this makes sense… The paper plus mailman part does. But the recycling part, not at all. But let’s move on. In order to recycle, you must to do a few things…

  1. You must pay for it. Recycling’s not free, nothing is… Recycling is expensive. You’ve got to pay people to keep things running.
  2. You have to maintain the machines that recycle your paper. This is very expensive. Machines breakdown. Machines, will always breakdown, eventually.
  3. How does the government pay for these expensive things? With your tax money. So.. next is number
  4. They must steal your money.

This is ridiculous… When my dad was a kid, they used to ramble on about global cooling. When i say ‘they’… I mean the same people that ramble on about this global warming shit today… Liberals! Liberals will do anything to get people to spend their money! They steal your hard earned money, away from you, for unneeded things not anyone needs. In contrast… No one needs recycling, the world doesn’t need it. You could be spending that money on your family! Or on your interests and hobbys! Not on recycling paper when it doesn’t have anymore, of a positive outcome on the environment.

The earth has been around for four billion years. If I throw a piece of paper in the recycling bin VS. Throwing it in the trash can, it won’t change a thing, the earth will still be here for billions of years more. The environment is nothing to worry about, don’t let yourself be fooled into this nonsense.

The earth recycles trash, litter, more trash… That are found in natural places like forests, and places of the like… By itself. Recycling is a natural occurring phenomenon. But, we don’t need to worry about it. Nature will handle it, the environment will handle it.

Don’t support recycling. Recycling is a waste of money.

Tweetie 2 Is On the App Store

October 11, 2009

Tweetie 2 has probably been the most awaited, and ‘hyped up’ Twitter client release, ever. This is not really, arguable…

Loren Brichter, the developer behind Tweetie 1, as well as Tweetie for Mac has made enough money for a living as he’s mentioned on the Atebits blog. Now, Loren has released Tweetie 2. (iTunes link) The only Twitter client for iPhone. Tweetie 2 is full of new features, of course. Tweetie 1 was a huge success, and Tweetie 2 has been that successful already… Tweetie 1 redefined the Twitter client, and Tweetie 2 will do it again.

Loren announced the imminent release of Tweetie 2, after dropping out of the spotlight for four months. This man, as many apple related news outlets have said, must not get any sleep. four months of speaking nothing but Objective-C and programming a new Twitter client for iPhone must be worth the lucrative riches awaiting at the end. Trust me, Loren’s making some real money right now. How many Tweetie 1 users won’t buy Tweetie 2? maybe a handful. These people are woefully unhappy with life. Tweetie is the masterpiece of Twitter clients. King of the Hill. The best of the best.

I’d like to write an iPhone app, and make a living off it. I’ll dream for a while longer…

Purchase Tweetie 2 if you haven’t bought it already. Or upgrade. Here.

The Health Care Dilemma

October 10, 2009

“We have much to gain by ensuring every person has health care coverage,” This is false… Health Care isn’t a right, Health Care is a luxury you only deserve if you have the money, and if you do… to have and choose. It is souly your job to decide on the health care you want… in other words… health care is something you must strive to get, it’s not the governments job to decide on a universal health care plan, or to determine if you have health care coverage, it’s yours.

Your health care is your responsibility, not the governments responsibility. The government creating a universal health care plan, is a socialist philosophy. In other words, it’s wrong. We are the United States of America! We aren’t some third world country… We have the capacity to, live to the fullest… not settle for a socialistic universal POS healthcare plan.

“Saying we have much to lose from not changing the status quo,” Which is a proven system… Is false. The proven system works well… So don’t break it. Doing what we’ve been doing is the only way to go about this, ‘dilemma’.

My opinion, which has already been expressed above. Is there shouldn’t even be a health care dilemma, at all… So fuck off Obama.

Helvetica/Arial

October 9, 2009

Helvetica is a typeface that was designed in 1957, by Swiss typeface designers Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffmann. Helvetica’s a beautiful sans-serif typeface, which I admire. Arial… to me (and many other people familiar with it’s flawes compared to Helvetica), is a Helvetica wannabe. it is Microsoft’s ‘answer’ to Helvetica. Arial is a piece of shit font though. I just thought I’d give my opinion, and that is don’t use it in any design centric work. Please.

MacBook Pro SSD Upgrade

October 8, 2009

I have installed a new Corsair P128 128GB ssd in my ‘so very, old’ MacBook Pro (late 2008 model) I won’t go into details about how to replace the old hhd, or how to open it… but, it’s a very fast process, you just have to keep track of all the screws. You must also have a Torqs T6 screwdriver. I will post two pictures, (one) of the old HDD in my MacBook Pro. and a (second), with my new SSD installed. The install process took about 40 minutes.

My new Corsair P128 SSD is 3 to 4 times faster than my old hhd. Everything loads faster, applications are snappier, my MBP turns on in 18 seconds. It’s amazing, very, very fast.

Hello world!

October 7, 2009

Hello, this is Octopi Grippe. Octopi Grippe will now be my blog. I want to transfer to the WordPress platform, to save money from my current SquareSpace blog at Upsidedownumbrella.com, and also because the WordPress platform is much more advanced.

SquareSpace is much too expensive, because you must pay your hosting fees as well as your SquareSpace fees. So, for me that’s 20$ for the advanced SquareSpace plan costs, as well as my web-hosting costs, equals 34$ dollars a month! Which is insane. In this economy, you’ve got to conserve your money, and put it where it needs to be.
